Keep the bath or fit a shower? A guide to choosing
If you rarely use the bath, replacing it with a shower can be appealing. Before choosing, consider the whole household and how the room might need to work in the years ahead.

Start with the way you use the room
Think about who uses the bathroom, how often they bathe and whether another bath exists in the home. A bath may be useful for young children or personal preference. A shower may suit a busy daily routine. Neither choice is automatically right for every home, and a decision based on hypothetical resale value can overlook what you need now.
Compare usable space
The space occupied by a bath is not necessarily the ideal footprint for a shower. Screen position, door opening and drying space all matter. Ask how spray will be contained and how you will reach the controls. A larger shower can still be awkward if the entrance is constrained by the toilet or basin.
Check the step and drainage
A low tray is not guaranteed to sit flush with every floor. Drain positions, floor construction and the proposed waste route affect what is practical. If easier access is the reason for changing, explain the specific need early so that the tray, entrance, controls and any support can be assessed together. Avoid ordering on appearance alone.
Plan the surrounding finishes
Removing a bath exposes areas that may not have the same wall or floor finish as the rest of the room. Include preparation, waterproofing arrangements and matching or replacing finishes in the quote. Consider cleaning access around the screen and choose products with care requirements you are comfortable following.
