Wet wall panels or tiles: what should you compare?
The choice between wall panels and tiles is about more than colour. Compare the complete installed finish, including the preparation behind it and how it meets the bath, shower and fittings.

Compare systems, not just samples
A tile sample and a panel swatch do not show the full installation. Ask which backing, adhesive, trims, joints and sealing details are specified for the chosen product. Suitability depends on the product and its location. Follow the manufacturer’s installation guidance, especially in wet areas; a decorative surface should not be treated as a substitute for the whole required system.
Look at the wall underneath
Existing surfaces may need levelling, removal or repair before either finish can be installed. Ask the fitter to explain the proposed preparation rather than assuming new panels can cover every problem. If the current bathroom has damaged surfaces, include an allowance or a clear process for assessing what is revealed after removal.
Think about the finished appearance
Tiles offer many sizes and laying patterns; panels can create broader areas with fewer visible joints. Check how either option works around windows, corners, niches and furniture. Look at a larger sample where possible and compare it with the floor and vanity in the room’s light. Small samples can disguise strong patterns.
Ask about cleaning and future access
Different surfaces, grouts and seals have different care requirements. Confirm compatible cleaners and what routine checks are needed around joints. Ask how access to concealed services will be retained and what a future repair might involve. Decide after comparing the product, preparation and labour together, not the material price alone.
